Fitz’s Personal Essay Rubric Download Personal Essay Pages Rubric
Below is a rubric designed to help tell a narrative story. It is essentially the same as a “Fitz-Style” journal entry--but a bit more specific. Please read my essay, “How to Tell a Good Story” before starting your own narrative essay. In this rubric, the directions are in the left column. In the right column I inserted a narrative essay written by Chris Ruedigger, an 8th grade student of mine in 2013 reflecting about his time at The Fenn School. If you notice: his two body paragraphs are excellent examples of using the narrative paragraph rubric to help him write the body paragraphs of this narrative essay. Mid-Year Writing Prompt: Your personal essay should “try” and describe your journey, growth and thoughts as a writer during this past term, and it will serve as an introduction to your portfolio. DOWNLOAD "Fitz's Comma Rules Workbook" by clicking on the link. You might need to use Chrome and/or delete your previous version, though I was able to use Safari on my iPad. It might take a few minutes (or more) to download as it is 50 megabytes. If there are any issues, I can airdrop it to you tomorrow. Most of the glitches are fixed, but there may be a few that I missed. Portfolio: 10 Points: It seems like everything you are doing to curate your blog is going well. I am very impressed by your efforts and results! Just to reiterate. For your portfolio:
You get the point! Punctuation: 10 Points The next part of the exam is the Comma Rules tests. I am still updating the quizzes in the book, but you will be required to take the quizzes in the exam period--BUT--you can practice all you want. Right now I have quizzes up through comma rule #7. I will have the rest up by Friday, and one larger quiz up by Monday. So keep practicing--and remember, I am quite human and this is the first version of the book. Please let me know of any mistakes you find! Personal Essay: 5 Points As an introduction to your portfolio, you will write an essay that explores your "experience" as a writer and reader this term. The final essay is due at the end of the exam period--though you may compete it before the exam period. Commenting: 5 Points You will be asked to review each other's portfolios during the exam period and post thoughtful comment on each persons portfolio. I will show you how to add a discussion board or comment box to your site. Be sure to take this survey about the food at Fenn.
Once again this week, I am missing my morning class with you. Good reasons, but again I am trusting you to do good work in class.
I will be in school later this morning, so find me if you need help or have a question. Sign up for winer term in Schoology with this code: GX24R-KSJ7S I am out of school on Tuesday. I will be with Mr. LaPlante at a workshop. In class: If you have not finished yet, continue reading your Classic book. Spend the last fifteen minutes of class writing a reading update. If (and when) you have finished the book, write a Book Review using the Book Review Rubric. If you are not going to finish your book this week, write a review about another book you have previously read. Be sure to follow the review carefully. Post to your blog when finished. Be sure it "looks" awesome! Save the Pages doc, so you can airdrop it to me on Notability on Friday. You do not need to write the optional literary analysis paragraphs. Due Friday!!! |
