Things I’ve Done in Other Summers
& Things I Want To Do This Summer
When I think of my summers forty five years ago I still get a rush of energy. I can still feel the wind in my face riding my bike down the hill at White's Pond excited beyond excited to spend a morning or afternoon trying to catch the elusive trout that lived seemingly beyond my reach. I can smell the oil in my baseball glove from the hours I spent in right field at the Willard School playing baseball for hours and hours and hours and hours.
We played a lot of baseball. Actually, between fishing and baseball my day was pretty much filled up. Except for after supper capture the flag games, wheelie contests on our banana seat bikes, tromps through the Mattison woods to capture garter snakes, painted turtles, warty toads and slimy salamanders, and everything ending up with late night Monopoly games, Lost in Space and Gilligan's Island on the TV and falling asleep to the crackling transistor radio beside my bed listening to WRKO's greatest hits...
With your summer just starting up, write about the things you have done in past summers, and also write about things you want to do this summer.
In my post I tried to be really specific about what I did. I didn't simply say: "I played a lot of games and did things in a lot places." You should try and be as specific as possible because it makes your reader's brains start to "see" what you are writing about.
And that is what makes writing fun to read.
Try and write at least three paragraphs. Be sure to save your post by publishing it live. Over the course of the week, click on the other links and comment on other kids' blogs. It makes it a lot more fun to write when you know you have an audience!
I will check your blog every day and post comments whenever there is new "stuff" up there.
