I hope there is no confusion about what needs to be done. Please remember to read and comment on my Crafted Word posts. It is how I tell you are truly a part of the class, and I try (try being the buzzword) to model what a journal entry could look like (Fitz Style Entry). Read and comment on your classmates posts as well, as it is crucial that a writer have a genuine audience.
- JOURNAL: I get that it is not easy to come up with a great journal entry four times a week--but you can at least do your best to make thoughtful, multi-paragraphed reflections about whatever is on your mind. If you are game, I thought it would be fun to write about classic Fenn moments during your time here. It is is good practice in the who/what/when/where/why style of writing, and combined with a reflective component, it is an effective and proven way of practicing the art of the personal essay.
- DISCUSSION: Perhaps the easiest four points per week is to simply comment on the Poem Miner and Balladmonger. Go the sites, read a poem or listen to a ballad and post a thoughtful response on the blog and on schoology (with a link to the piece).
- FORMAL WRITING: We will continue working in class on your Kiterunner summaries and analyses. Post your work in Quip, so I can keep up with your progress and help you edit as needed.
- PORTFOLIO: Finally, this is the end of your senior year at Fenn, and I want to do all we can to make your portfolio a compelling and complete portrait of your life here at Fenn, so it is a perfect time to kill a few birds with one stone: write about your time at Fenn; make a sports tab where you can write about your sports and/or put up slideshows; do the same for arts and for friends, or even memoirs bout teachers who you know you will love to remember some day.
- GRAMMAR: Continue studying the top ten comma rules, and just as importantly, use those rules consciously as you write.
