I know that some of you have probably been to sport’s camps this summer where you learn and practice the same sport all day every day for a week—or more! Most of you, too, probably do it with a smile on your face and determination in y9our heart because you really do want to get better at that sport, and you know that every little bit of work that you do in some way, shape, or form makes you a better athlete and sharpens the specific skills that you will need to improve at the sport you love.
It’s really no different with writing. If you approach writing as you do a sport, you will improve dramatically as a writer—and all without breaking a sweat. Every time you write you are exercising your mind and your skills as a writer. Every time you try to learn a bit more about writing well—and you go to the page: your blog, your journal, or even just a scrap of paper and do some writing you get better, the same as if you ran out back and took twenty shots on goal, thirty foul shots or fifty jumping jacks.
The Summerblogger Challenge challenges you to try and write in your blog five times a week for two weeks. There is no required length for each entry, but try to stay true to "the spirit” of the challenge and view each entry you post as “exercise” as a writer. If you miss a day, don’t give up, just get back to it as soon as you can—the same as you would with any sport that you love.
For my part, I will check your blogs every day to comment on whatever I find. I really do love reading your writing pieces. They are interesting and fun, each of them in a unique and refreshing way.
Thanks!
Fitz
